INDEPENDENCE DAY 2020
On 15th August 1947, India had achieved INDEPENDENCE after years of struggle.On this day, it ceased to be a colonial nation and secured full autonomy from the British that ruled over it for years. The day holds great significance in the heart of every Indian citizen living in India and abroad.
It is a annual occasion and a national holiday in India, wherein people hoist the NATIONAL FLAG, wear clothes that represent tricolour signifying the importance of NATIONAL FLAG and take part in many games and cultural programs.
On 15 August 1947, when the Prime Minister of Independent India Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru hoisted the national flag at the LAHORI GATE OF RED FORT in New Delhi, the Father of the Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi fasted in Calcutta(now Kolkata).
HISTORY :
India was ruled by the Britishers for many years. The East India Company ruled India for about 100 years. It was in 1757 when East India Company won the battle of Plassey. Company started exerting powers over India. Our nation had its rebellion in 1857 against the British Rule. The entire country united against the British Rule. Our nation faced a long campaign to gain independence. After the two world wars India was finally free. India's freedom struggle had always been an inspiration as it was the non-violent campaign in the world.
NATIONAL FLAG OF INDIA
How we celeberate our INDEPENDENCE DAY :
Every year our Prime Minister hoist the National Flag in the morning at the RED FORT in New Delhi and addresses the Nation. The day is usually dotted with some cultural programmes, competitions, flag-hoisting ceremonies, and parades.Kite flying is another tradition that is followed on Independence Day with people of all age groups as participants. It represents the freedom that we achieved on this day.
Facts About India:
1. India has been independent for 73 years.
2. India is named after the river Indus.
3. India has had 14 Prime Ministers out of which one has been a female Prime Minister.
4. India has had 13 full-time Presidents out of which only one has been a woman.
5. The Indian National Flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya who was one of the freedom fighters and also an agricultural from Andhra Pradesh.
6. India's national anthem was adopted three years of post-independence.
7. Mahatma Gandhi wasn't able to celebrate the first Independence Day in Delhi.
